Didier Drogba makes an emotional return to Stamford Bridge this evening with his Galatasaray team vying for a place in this year’s Champions League quarter finals against the Ivorian’s former club. The last time the 36 year old striker made an appearance in a Chelsea shirt, he guided his old side to Champions League glory over Bayern Munich back in 2012. Ironically, he now faces the very different task of helping his Galatasaray side overcome the very same club where he left his legacy just two years ago.
Chelsea suffered a major set back to their domestic title aspirations after losing to Aston Villa at the weekend but they still go into this tie as 1.37 favourites to win the tie inside 90 minutes and thus progress to the latter stages of the competition. Despite the 8.50 price for Galatasaray to win this evening’s match, Chelsea boss will not take Roberto Mancini’s men lightly, being fully aware of the threat they carry with the likes of Didier Drogba and Wesley Snejder in their side, two players of whom the Portuguese has worked with previously.
David Luiz and Ashley Cole both look unlikely to feature for the Blues with injuries that saw them miss last weekend’s trip to Villa Park. Galatasaray meanwhile have Aydin Yilmaz, Gökhan Zan and Emre Colak still on treatment table with Turkish star Hamit Altintop also unlikely to make an appearance this evening.
