Weekend Accumulator Tips

Birmingham and Norwich let the accumulator down last weekend so here’s hoping this week’s selections fare better!

Watford

1

It is incredible that there isn’t more of a fuss surrounding Slavisa Jokanovic, having taken Watford from an unstable team sacking managers every week to top of the Championship. The Hornets have won eight of their last ten games and have surged up the division as teams around them stutter amidst one of the tightest promotion races in a long time. They face Ipswich this week, a side who had their promotion credentials well and truly smashed away to Middlesbrough last weekend. Expect another severe test with the in-form men in yellow coming out on top.

Torquay/Kidderminster Draw

1

Dropping like a stone in the Conference, both Torquay and Kidderminster could do with a much needed win. With that in mind, we’re backing both sides to battle for an untidy point. Neither the Gulls nor the Harriers know how to win games, as proven by the recent form of these two – and that is despite boasting a respectable defensive record (Torquay with +2, Kidd with -3). Of course, one scrappy winner ruins this prediction, but those of you brave enough will already be eyeing up the odds of a 0-0!

Portsmouth or Draw

01

We know what you’re thinking, an each way bet. Sheesh, we know and we do feel dirty. However, we can’t see this one losing money so it squeaks in. Pompey have been rising recently and improving after a dismal start under Andy Awford who has steered them clear of the drop zone. Level on points with their weekend opponents, AFC Wimbledon, Pompey go in as favourites having lost just once in ten games. They’ve not been attractive in doing so as the midweek draw against Cheltenham suggests, but they’re tricky to beat. Add to the equation that striker Matt Tubbs knows all about the Dons and has five in his last seven and you get the picture.

Brechin

01

At the foot of a chasing pack in Scottish League One, Brechin have plenty to play for heading into the season’s climax. Currently in 4th, the final play-off position, Brechin had gone nine unbeaten prior to last week’s loss to Peterhead. This week, ‘City’ are up against the side directly above them; Forfar, a side not too impressive when travelling away. Additionally, Forfar have been on a win-lose-win-lose sequence for the past eight games, a run we’re praying continues!

Boosters

Tottenham host Leicester and should put the Foxes further into trouble, though a win is not guaranteed in the Premier League. The Championship offers greater reliability as Brentford should take care of lowly Millwall (1pm kick-off!) and Leeds against aren’t-they-relegated-yet Blackpool. Back Celtic against anyone and you should be in, whilst Hearts win on most weekends. Burton Albion face Tranmere in League Two, whereas Barnet take on relegation-threatened Welling, aiming to keep their title charge on course.
