Social Media reacts – Liverpool lose 2-1 to West Ham in their FA Cup 4th Round replay

It was yet more woe for the Reds to endure last night after they were knocked out of the FA Cup thanks a last-gasp winner from West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna sent through the Hammers to the fifth round with a 2-1 victory.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had fought admirably to carve their way back into the game after a clever Phillipe Coutinho free kick early in the second half cancelled out West Ham’s opener from Michail Antonio. But it will no doubt be Liverpool’s £32.5 million striker Christian Benteke who will take the lion’s share of the blame following yesterday evening’s defeat after the Belgian striker missed a series of clear-cut chances in extra time.

The home side ultimately paid the price for their lack of cutting edge in front of goal when Italian defender Ogbonna rose highest to head home West Ham’s winner in the dying stages of extra to send his side through to the fifth round.

With ‘Pool’s season getting more miserable by the day, we took to social media to see how Reds and West Ham fans alike reacted to last night’s dramatic game.

This cheeky tweet from a West Ham fan Twitter account summed up perfectly the kind of night Liverpool’s 2nd ever most expensive signing was having…

And of course Liverpool fans were justifiably livid with their striker after the cacophony of chances he missed in extra time ….

Benteke’s missed chances in extra time… UNACCEPTABLE!

It was clear going into this game some West Ham fans still clearly hadn’t gotten over that last-minute Steven Gerrard FA Cup final winner in 2006…

Randolph, Obiang, Antonio and Ogbonna outstanding for West Ham tonight. That’s revenge for 2006!#COYI

As funny as this tweet was, we’d guess that the majority of Liverpool fans are now resigned to the fact that they’re just not very good…

Meanwhile in the West Midlands, Aston Villa fans were waiting in the wings with their crucial Premier League match-up with Liverpool on Sunday…

Whilst this tweet on Daniel Sturridge may at least be partially true Gary…

The England striker has now missed close to 100 games for Liverpool due to injury since he joined the Merseyside Club.

“Because nobody’s scored yet” was the retort of hundreds of Twitter ‘trolls’ when Joey Barton posted this rather palpable tweet during the match yesterday.
