We’re treated to a jam-packed schedule of Premier League football this week as we close in on the penultimate games of this thrilling 2015/2016 campaign. With Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Liverpool all in focus, we make three predictions for their respective match-ups.
Spurs to close the gap on Leicester with a victory
Leicester City made Mauricio Pochetino’s pre-match team talk very easy tomorrow evening after the Foxes dropped 2 points against West Ham at the King Power stadium Sunday lunchtime. Should Spurs pick up a win at the Britannia stadium tomorrow evening, they will close the gap between them and the league leaders to just 5 points which would make for a very tense finale in this year’s title race.
Harry Kane and co face a Stoke City side who despite having a solid season, have seemingly taken their foot off the gas as of late, as evident in their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend. And whilst the old adage states that the Britannia Stadium has become a difficult place to go in recent times, we’re backing the Lilywhites to get the three points they need in Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow evening.
Newcastle to pick up vital point against Manchester City
It seems as though things finally started to click for Newcastle United under Rafael Benitez. With the Magpies in dire straits following their last-gasp defeat to relegation rivals Norwich eight days ago, they went into yesterday’s tie against Swansea knowing that anything less than a win would signal the end for their Premier League status.
In a riposte to their local rivals Sunderland who had won against the Canaries just a few hours earlier, Rafa’s men swept aside Swansea City in a comfortable 3-0 victory. It was just what the doctor ordered for the North East side as they venture to face an in-form Manchester City who made it to the last four of the Champions League for the first time in their history last week.
Whilst getting a result against the Citizens won’t be easy, we believe with the confidence gained from their win against the Swans last weekend, that Newcastle can grab a draw against City on Tuesday evening.
The Merseyside Derby to treat us to a goal-fest
Wednesday evening should make for intriguing viewing with both sides in this week’s Merseyside derby having important cup semi finals on the horizon.
Liverpool after their heroics against Borussia Dortmund last week and Everton after they made light work of Chelsea on March the 12th are into the final four of the Europa Cup and FA Cup respectively. With both sides looking to end the season on a high-note, we’re expecting this to be a very action-packed Merseyside Derby indeed. And considering the gratuitous amount attacking talent on display in the form of Romelu Lukaku and Divock Origi, we can see plenty of goals in this one.
