Austria plays host to the weekend’s F1 Grand Prix as the chasing pack look to put a halt to Nico Rosberg’s growing dominance at the top of the Driver’s Championship. After the German led from the opening corner in this month’s European Grand Prix, attempts from the likes of Sebastian Vettel to keep pace turned out to be futile.
As part of a busy summer schedule, Formula 1 takes its place in Spielberg this weekend and with Rosberg and Hamilton both 6/4 and 11/10 to win, it is firmly expected to be an archetypal Mercedes dominated race on Sunday.
Rosberg running away with it
It was business as usual for Nico Rosberg as another complete performance out on the track in this month’s European Grand Prix put paid to Lewis Hamilton’s fading chances of catching him, with the Brit himself enduring more than his fair share of car troubles in Azerbaijan. Despite starting in 10th and climbing well in the early periods of the contest, tyre problems which forced him to pit multiple times kept him firmly blockaded in the middle of the chasing pack.
Despite a widening lead that is seemingly only getting wider, Hamilton can still be backed at 20/33 to win the Driver’s Championship this year.
Lewis Hamilton further admitted that this year’s F1 title could already be out of his reach despite much of the season still to go.
“I am definitely not feeling confident for the future, but I have a lot of races ahead,” Hamilton told the press. “It’s looking like a good year for Nico, but I never give up.”
Given his performance a fortnight ago, we’re a little surprised that Rosberg isn’t outright favourite for Sunday’s race. With his teammate Hamilton struggling with consistency on the track, we still feel there’s a smidgen of value for those who wish to back him at 6/4.
Elsewhere in the field, Sebastian Vettel gave a good account of himself in Azerbaijan and we fully expect him to be ‘there or there abouts’ come Sunday and with his price to win in Austria at 6/1 (the same as what it was last time out), we’d be tempted to plump for him again this weekend as an E/W bet.
