In football if you are standing still you’re going backwards. So let’s take a look at who is making their move in the transfer market ahead of the big kick off.
Where next for Mahrez?
Last season’s player of the year Riyad Mahrez is hot property right now and many doubt Leicester City’s chances of hanging on to the attacking midfielder. Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be ready to finally dig up his long buried treasure chest and make a big money move for the Algerian (£40 million is the rumoured fee).
Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri has issued a warning to Mahrez over moving to Arsenal (http://www.punditarena.com/football/english-football/leicester-city/gbrennan/leicester-city-boss-warns-riyad-mahrez-over-arsenal-move/?) as he tries desperately to cling on to his star, especially after having already lost N’golo Kante to Chelsea this summer.
It was rumoured back in March that Barcelona could be interested in the 25-year-old but that appears to have gone quiet and the gunners look like the only potential destination right now. However, Mahrez is reported to believe that he can get more than the £100,000 a week offered by the gunners.
This one looks set to rumble on for a while.
Pogba to United?
Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United for a reported fee of £112 million appears to be a step closer after an unconfirmed source at Juventus claimed the deal is done. However conflicting reports suggest the deal is worth £100 million. Either way the source is saying the deal is set to be completed within the next 48 hours.
There is a chance that Real Madrid could hi-jack the deal with Real head coach Zinedine Zidane telling the media that ‘Everybody is interested’ and ‘Anything could happen’. Either way with Juventus’s acquisition of Gonzalo Higuaín from Napoli for £75.3 million this week, Pogba’s impending departure is certain to occur sooner rather than later to refill the coffers in Turin.
Sissoko’s Next Destination
Despite being outstandingly below par for Newcastle United during their relegation campaign last season, Moussa Sissoko has emerged as a shock transfer target for Real Madrid. http://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2016/07/22/real-madrid-in-for-star/
In what must feel like a slap in the face for the Toon Army, Sissoko suddenly decided to show Newcastle fans what he could not bothered to do for them by staring for France at this year’s European Championships (especially in the Semi Final victory over Germany).
This has put him firmly in Real Madrid’s mind as they believe they can nab him for around £30million and save having to pay the £100million for Pogba.
You get the feeling he will not be overly missed on Tyneside.
It is looking more and more likely the John Stones saga will come to an end this summer with Manchester City hoping to finalise a deal of £50m for the Everton Defender. The Toffees ae lining up Sunderland’s Lamine Kone as his replacement. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3711545/Manchester-City-set-sign-John-Stones-50m-transfer-Everton.html
Southampton are trying to prise striker Christian Tello away from Barcelona for around £10m and there is every chance it will happen as Barca are hoping to tie up a deal for Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez.
