The roles are reversed this week with Real Madrid facing the tougher task in the hunt for the title as they welcome a dangerous Sevilla side to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Despite having gone off the boil ever so slightly in recent months, Sevilla’s overall class cannot be disputed, and with Champions League qualification still not mathematically assured, the Sevillistas will need little in the way of motivation to garner a result from the Madrid giants.
Real still boast a game in hand over Barcelona in the league and a draw would technically not be a disastrous result for the Madrid men either.
However, head coach Zinedine Zidane will be keen to show no sign of weakness in his attempt to land the La Liga and Champions League double.
Real Madrid are favourites as expected at 2/15 with us whereas the draw offers value at 8/1 with a Sevilla shock win at 11/1 with Comeon!
Barcelona face a trip to the Canary Islands on Sunday night as they face Las Palmas.
A win and nothing less will do for the Catalans and they should get it over a side who have already started sunning themselves on the Island beaches.
Three straight defeats for Las Palmas (who sit comfortably 14th and in no danger of relegation) is proof enough that Quique Setién’s men are taking an early end of season break.
Enrique’s Barcelona side should comfortably come through this one at 2/25 with us and ensure his side keep the pressure on at the top.
At the other end of the table, Sporting Gijon picked up a win last time out that keeps them in the league at least until the end of this weekend.
Five points is the gap between them and Deportivo La Coruna who hold the last safe La Liga place with two games to play.
A win or draw for Deportivo away at Villarreal on Sunday will send Gijon crashing out of La Liga with Deportivo priced at 5/1 to win and 33/10 to draw against the impressive Yellow Submarine.
Gijon face a trip to Eibar on Sunday night with the knowledge that lose or draw and it is all over for them.
Eibar have impressed this season and sit in the top half of the table in eighth. Head coach José Luis Mendilibar has done a wonderful job in guiding the club to another season of top flight Spanish football and he will be keen to see his side end the season with a flourish.
Gijon will give it everything and are 9/4 to pick up that win that could keep them in the league.
However, even that may not be enough if Deportivo can get over the line against Villarreal.
Real Madrid host Sevilla on Sunday afternoon in a big test for Zidane’s men’s title credentials.
They are 2/15 to claim the three points with us. However, even a draw would keep Real in pole positon thanks to their game in hand on Barcelona.
That outcome is 8/1 with Comeon!
