Barcelona host Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup this evening as they begin life without Neymar.
The Catalan giants should be able to claim a win and the advantage today despite the Brazilian’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain. Real had a tough game in the UEFA Super Cup in Macedonia earlier this week and that clash with Manchester United may have taken it’s toll.
Real won a league and European double last season but Barcelona still held the El Clasico bragging rights with a win and a draw. The Camp Nou club have also won four of the last six meetings between the two in all competitions, including a 3-2 friendly victory in the US over the summer.
Neymar’s exit will have come as a major blow to Barcelona but they still have Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and, with home advantage, I’m expecting them to claim a win today.
A Barcelona win pays out at 1/1 but the 9/5 on a home win with both teams to score is my top bet for the Spanish Super Cup first leg. In the last six games between the two, both teams have scored in all but one of those matches so we should see action at both ends this evening, and Barcelona should be able to take a lead into the second leg in Madrid.
