Home comforts for in-form trio

The Scottish Premiership returns to action this weekend and, based on the recent form before the international break, a winning home treble looks the smart play with our weekend bet.

Champions Celtic top the form guide over the last six games, taking 14 points from the 18 on offer. Right in behind them in that reduced table are Rangers, Hibernian and Aberdeen – all having gathered 13 points (four wins, one draw and one defeat) from their previous six.

Of the defeats suffered, both Rangers and Aberdeen were mastered by Brendan Rodgers’ team while Hibs suffered their loss in a 1-0 defeat against Aberdeen.

The top four have opened a five-point gap on fifth-placed Motherwell and the sides chasing leaders Celtic all look well-placed to win this weekend.

Rangers have responded well to Pedro Caixinha’s departure, with back-to-back victories over Hearts and Partick Thistle so far under caretaker boss Graeme Murty. Remarkably, a victory struggling Hamilton Accies at Ibrox on Saturday (Rangers 2/7 to win) will see Murty achieve something Caixinha couldn’t do by winning three consecutive games.

Hamilton are unbeaten in three games (one win) but they do still tend to leak goals and Rangers, second-highest scorers in the top flight after Celtic, can punish them in that regard.

Neil Lennon and Hibs are seeking a fifth successive Premiership win and they are also fancied to oblige at 4/7 by taking care of St Johnstone at Easter Road.

The Saints haven’t scored, far less managed to win, in any of their last six games. Going to face a Hibs side that has developed a winning knack should prove another tough afternoon for the Perth side. Lennon will have Hibs in the right frame of mind for this one, knowing full well an early goal might just shatter the visitors’ fragile confidence.

The third and final leg of our Saturday afternoon Scottish Premiership treble comes at Pittodrie where Aberdeen (20/29 to win) should be able to get the better of Motherwell.

These sides have met five times in league and cup action over the preceding 12 months and the Dons have won them all. Derek McInnes’ team didn’t allow last month’s defeat to Celtic to linger in their thoughts and they can take the measure of the Steelmen once more.

The treble on Rangers, Hibs and Aberdeen will pay just under 5/2.
