City to sweep Robins aside

Bristol City have done incredibly well to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side will be too strong for the Championship outfit in Tuesday’s first leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Lee Johnson’s side knocked Manchester United out in the previous round and have also seen off Crystal Palace and Stoke City earlier in the competition.

However, the Robins have lost their last three matches – 2-1 at home to Wolves, 5-0 at Aston Villa on New Year’s Day and 3-0 to Watford in the FA Cup – while none of the top nine teams in the Championship have conceded more goals than them.

There is little left to say about Manchester City who continue to be far superior to anything the other Premier League teams can throw at them.

They were forced to come from behind on Saturday before beating Burnley 4-1 in the FA Cup but some of their displays in the League Cup have been below their usual imperious standards.

Guardiola’s team edged past West Brom 2-1 in the third round and have since needed penalty shoot-outs to see off Wolves and Leicester City.

However, they seem unbeatable at the moment and are 5/2 to score two goals in the first half on Tuesday while a 2-0 victory for the Premier League leaders is available at 13/2.

Manchester City, who have been beaten just once, by Shakhtar Donetsk, in 31 league and cup matches this season, are 6/4 to score a goal between the first and 15th minute against the Championship outfit.

Guardiola seems intent on winning every match his team are involved in this season and his squad is so strong that it is difficult to see how Bristol City can restrict their attacking prowess.

It may be worth seeking out odds of 33/10 on Manchester City scoring a penalty in the match while Nicolas Otamendi, who has already found the net five times this season, is 15/2 to score the first goal.
