Malaga’s mini renaissance seems to have come to an end but they may be able to pick up some vital points when they host Espanyol in La Liga this evening.
The hosts remain in deep trouble with just 11 points from 17 games so far, putting them five points adrift of safety, but Espanyol are also struggling for form and are the only team in La Liga without an away win this season.
Malaga did manage to go four games unbeaten at home across all competitions before losing to Real Betis in their last game at La Rosaleda in mid-December, and Espanyol represent a good opportunity to pick up a crucial win.
The Catalan side tend to up their game against the bigger teams as they have managed draws with Real Sociedad, Levante and Sevilla on their travels.
However, Espanyol have lost at Alaves and drawn with Las Palmas in their only trips to sides below them in the table so far.
This is a tough one to call with a lot at stake for both sides but Malaga look the value call if you take into account the fact they have two wins from their last four home games in La Liga.
