Liverpool head to Southampton in the Premier League’s final kick off on Sunday and they should be able to claim all three points in their fight for a top-four finish.
Defender Virgil van Dijk’s move from St Mary’s to Anfield provides an interesting sub-plot to this fixture, but when the game itself begins the Saints defence keeping the Reds quiet rather than the Dutchman taking on his former team-mates is more likely to be a deciding matter.
The visitors have had a few slip ups of late but their Premier League loss to Swansea doesn’t look quite so shocking given the Swans’ run since, and they managed a 2-2 draw with Spurs last time out after twice taking the lead.
Southampton are unbeaten in six overall and are showing signs of recovery, although their home form remains a concern. The south coast club are without a Premier League victory at St Mary’s since November, having failed to see off the likes of Huddersfield and Brighton during that time.
Liverpool have six wins in their last nine away fixtures and have averaged an impressive three goals a game during that time, having only failed to score at Swansea.
