Spurs can stifle Juve’s threat

Tottenham showed before Christmas when they beat Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund that they can live with the best teams in Europe and they have the ability to frustrate Juventus in Tuesday’s Champions League clash between the two sides in Turin.

Juve, who were runners-up in the competition to Real Madrid last year, were beaten by Barcelona in the group stage and may have to settle for a draw (9/4) when Spurs visit the Allianz Stadium.

After making an inauspicious start to their Serie A campaign, Juve have hit a rich vein of form recently and Friday’s 2-0 victory at Fiorentina was their eighth win in a row while they have kept an incredible 10 clean sheets in their last 11 matches.

The Old Lady can be backed at 13/10 to keep yet another clean sheet against Spurs in the first ever competitive fixture between the two clubs, while a 1-1 draw is available at 21/4. Dele Alli is 15/4 to score at any time in the encounter.

FC Basel have beaten Manchester United and Chelsea in Europe in the past but it is difficult to see how Raphael Wicky’s team can trouble imperious Manchester City.

The Swiss side thrashed Benfica 5-0 during the group stage and also beat Manchester United at St Jakob-Park but do not appear to have the armoury to trouble Pep Guardiola’s team, who eased to a 5-1 victory against Leicester City on Saturday.

Basel, who have won the last eight Swiss Super League titles, are currently second in the table behind Young Boys and lost 1-0 at home to Lugano earlier this month.

Everything points to an easy victory for the runaway Premier League leaders and they are 17/2 to win 3-0 in Switzerland with Kevin De Bruyne 7/1 to score the first goal.
