United set for cagey night in Seville

Wednesday sees two more Champions League last-16, first-leg ties and we could be in for some crackers if the previous games are anything to go by.

The one that stands out as far as domestic interest goes is Manchester United‘s trip to Andalusia to take on Sevilla.

Jose Mourinho’s side continue to lurch from one issue to the next and, with the manager signing a new contract last month, it appears set to be another busy summer in the transfer market.

With United trailing local rivals Manchester City at home, Mourinho may well again seek salvation in Europe, just like he did in last term’s Europa League.

Sevilla came through a decent Group E, which also included Liverpool, and their home ground, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, remains among the most vociferous in Europe, an opinion borne out by them losing just once at home this season.

Vincenzo Montella seems to be getting more out of his players after initially struggling on his arrival, guiding them to just one defeat in their last nine.

Both bosses will set up not to lose what promises to be an intriguing contest so look for a draw at 9/4, with 1-1 priced at 21/4.

From the south of Spain we head almost 3,000 miles across the continent for the other game where Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk take on Italian outfit Roma.

Shakhtar are regulars on the European scene but have made the last eight of this competition just once. However, they will see this as a good chance to progress, having beaten Manchester City during the group stage.

In fact, temporarily playing in Kharkiv due to the political tensions in the Donbass has not hindered them, winning all three of their outings at the Metalist Stadium before Christmas.

Paulo Fonseca’s side also made a winning return from their winter break by beating Chornomorets 5-0 on Friday.

Roma have won their last three after somewhat of a sticky patch and topped a group that also featured Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

They have also lost only twice away from home this season but this is the type of game Shakhtar have shone in over the years.

Inspirational captain Darijo Srna may be suspended but the Hirnyky look to have enough to seal a first-leg advantage, with the home win hugely tempting at 6/4.
