Roma need to overturn a 2-1 deficit to progress in the Champions League and home advantage should see them over the line against Shakhtar Donetsk this evening.
The Italian side impressed in the first half in the Ukraine and looked good value for their 1-0 lead at the break, but the second half was a different story as Shakthar ended up deserved winners.
Since then Roma have claimed an impressive 4-2 win at Napoli and they looked strong and composed when beating Torino 3-0 in Friday.
The visitors are in good form as they have won all three of their games since beating the Giallorossi, scoring 11 goals without conceding in the process, but Roma are a clear step up in class.
Shakthar lost two of their three away games in the group stages and they do tend to struggle on the road in Europe, having lost six of their last seven away from home in the Champions League in a run stretching back to the qualifying rounds in 2015.
Roma’s recent hard form is a little worrying but they seem to have turned a corner since that loss in the Ukraine and can continue that upward trajectory with a win this evening.
The Serie A side have an away goal advantage and don’t need to go all out on the attack as a 1-0 victory would be enough to see them through, while Shakthar have only managed two goals in their last seven away games in Europe’s top tournament and may well struggle to break Roma down today.
