Brighton probably need to win one more match to preserve their Premier League status for another season but they are unlikely to get it against Tottenham on Tuesday.
After losing 3-2 at Crystal Palace on Saturday, Brighton are seven points clear of the bottom three, but have only taken one point from their last four games and face a very difficult run-in.
All of the Seagulls’ last five matches are against sides currently in the top seven as, after entertaining Spurs, they have games against Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Burnley to look forward to.
Now may be a good time to bet on Brighton being relegated at odds of 8/1.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton spent more than a decade of his playing career at Spurs and even had a spell in caretaker charge of the club in 1997.
However, he will not be expecting any favours from a side that will be keen to cement their place in the top four after suffering only a sixth league defeat of the season on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 by champions Manchester City at Wembley.
Only Pep Guardiola’s team have won more away games than Spurs this season who are 10/19 to beat Brighton and make it 11 triumphs on their travels.
The Seagulls have only lost four home matches all season but crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Mauricio Pochettino’s side in December and have failed to beat Leicester City and Huddersfield Town in their last two games at the Amex.
As well as the Foxes, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all recorded comfortable victories at Brighton and Spurs are also good enough to ease to a routine three points on Tuesday, with a 2-0 win for the visitors available at 27/4.
