The new UEFA Nations League tournament begins today and the highlight fixture is without doubt Germany’s home clash against world champions France.
Germany to win and both teams to score @ 3/1
The Germans fell at the group stages in the World Cup this summer as defending champions and this clash against the new holders gives them a perfect opportunity to respond to that failure. Boss Joachim Low has kept faith largely with the squad that struggled in Russia but there will be players pushing to make an impact, such as Leroy Sane, who missed out altogether, and Leon Goretzka, who was used sparingly.
Those players will add a bit more pace going forward and with home advantage I’m anticipating a big performance from Germany as they look to silence their critics, although France have enough quality to cause them problems and should be able to grab a goal even if they do come away with a loss.
Czech Republic to beat Ukraine @ 6/4
The Czechs and Ukrainians both missed out this summer and face off in the B League this evening. Ukraine are unbeaten in four on their travels but they haven’t faced anyone of real quality during that period and a trip to the Mestsky Fotbalovy Stadion Miroslava Valenty could be a tough ask this evening.
The Czechs have a solid record at home and have only lost to Germany in their last nine matches when hosts, and they can continue their impressive run with a win over Ukraine today.
