Rafael Nadal faces off against Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open semi-finals this evening and the Argentine hopeful could pull off a minor upset.
Del Potro to win @ 13/10
The world number three is enjoying one of his best ever seasons and the tournament in New York offers an excellent chance to claim a second Grand Slam title, having landed the top prize at Flushing Meadows before all his injury problems began back in 2009.
Nadal is bidding to reach a third successive major final but he had to come through a mammoth test to down Dominic Thiem 3-2 last time out. The Spaniard has played 13 sets over his last four matches – three more than Del Potro – and has spent roughly four-and-a-half hours longer on court than his semi-final opponent during that period.
That extra action could well have taken a toll on the world number one, particularly given how hot it has been in New York, and Del Potro can make that advantage count and book a spot in the final.
If you’re looking for a big price we could well see another five-setter and a 3-2 win for Del Potro stands out at 6/1.
Turkey to beat Russia @ 23/20
Russia were one of the surprise packages of the World Cup as they reached the quarter-finals but they may come unstuck in Turkey this evening.
Home advantage undoubtedly played a role in their march to the last eight at the World Cup, and away from home they have a poor recent record with just one win in their last six games.
Turkey missed out on the summer showpiece and will be keen to make a statement and I think they could be too good for Russia in Trabzon.
