Tottenham will overtake Manchester City in the Premier League table if they win Monday’s clash but Pep Guardiola’s team can make sure that does not happen by emerging victorious at Wembley.
Spurs have not been at their best all season but have still managed to win seven of their nine Premier League fixtures.
However, there is a feeling of stagnation at the club following the failure to sign any new players in the summer and their Champions League performances have been poor.
City to win and both teams to score @ 17/10
Mauricio Pochettino’s team already look as though they will struggle to secure a top-four finish and could be further adrift of the Champions League places after Monday’s game.
Pochettino has a poor record against Guardiola, winning just twice in 13 attempts, and City completed the double over the north London outfit last term, coming out on top 4-1 in Manchester and 3-1 at Wembley.
Kevin de Bruyne’s return from injury has coincided with a 5-0 victory for City against Burnley and 3-0 Champions League triumph against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine when Guardiola’s team were at their imperious best.
De Bruyne to score the first goal @ 9/1
Spurs, who will be without Jan Vertonghen because of a thigh injury, have scored in every Premier League match so far this season and have won their last four matches, keeping clean sheets in the last three.
However, they were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in the capital last month and could suffer a similar fate on Monday. City are 33/4 to win 2-1.
Guardiola has so many options at his disposal that it could be said City are even stronger this season than last when they strolled to the title.
They have already scored 26 goals and conceded just three times. The only points they have dropped so far have been on their travels – at Wolves and Liverpool – but they have won three matches by five-goal margins as well as defeating Fulham 3-0.
