The Scorchers have just lost their crown and would like to reclaim it, whereas the Stars would be desperate to win some games in order to move into the top half of the ladder.

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Team Previews

Perth Scorchers (Match Odds – 1.67)

The Perth Scorchers were undefeated in the tournament until a couple of days ago, but a loss in their last match would have sounded the alarm. Although they are unlikely to panic just yet, that defeat did expose a few flaws in their defences.

Despite the loss to the Sydney Thunder, the Perth Scorchers are comfortably second on the ladder with six wins from seven games. They have a total of 21 points and a fantastic net run rate of 1.188. A win here will move them one step closer to a playoff spot, which is exactly what they will be aiming for.

The Perth Scorchers’ loss to the Thunder came after a six-game winning streak. Perth Scorchers bowlers were brilliant early on, dismissing Alex Hales and Matt Gilkes inside the powerplay, but once Sam Billings and Jason Sangha were set, the Scorchers appeared to be out of options. The fact that Andrew Tye was unable to finish his spell also backfired, as Lance Morris was smashed for 16 off nine deliveries.

Perth Scorchers, chasing a total of 200, got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay. With the exception of Colin Munro and Andrew Tye, who scored 64 and 44 points respectively, none of their batsmen lasted more than three overs. The Scorchers’ batsmen failed to fire for the first time, and they will be hoping that it is a one-time occurrence.

On paper, the Scorchers have a fairly well-equipped unit with a variety of options in both departments of the game. Their bowling appears to be one-dimensional, especially when playing on unhelpful surfaces. Their batting, on the other hand, is on par with the best.

Perth Scorchers Squad

Kurtis Patterson, Josh Inglis (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro, Ashton Turner (c), Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Matthew Kelly, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris, Peter Hatzoglou, Tymal Mills, Cameron Bancroft, David Moody, Nick Hobson

Predicted XI: Josh Inglis (wk), Kurtis Patterson, Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro, Ashton Turner (c), Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Matthew Kelly, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris

Melbourne Stars (Match Odds – 2.20)

The Melbourne Stars have been hot and cold in the tournament so far, and it is past time for them to find some consistency. On their good days, they are exceptional, and on their bad days, they have lost by record margins. The Stars are coming off a good win over the Brisbane Heat in their last match, and a win here will put them back in contention. It will not be easy, but it is not out of reach for the Stars.

Melbourne Stars currently sit in sixth place on the points table, with three wins and three losses to their name. They have a total of ten points and a dreadful net run rate of -1.114. To get into the top four, they’ll need to not only win, but also win the bash boost point.

The Melbourne Stars are coming off a solid win over the Brisbane Heat in a high-scoring game. Batting first against the Heat, they finally got their batting going, scoring a whopping 207 runs. They went for the slam, bang, wallop approach, and Hilton Cartwright and Joe Clarke were on fire. What’s more, despite the fact that most of their batsmen failed to reach double figures, they still managed to post a massive total.

Although they were able to defend their total, their bowling was woefully inadequate. Except for Qais Ahmed, the majority of their bowlers were too expensive. The Stars could have lost the game if it hadn’t been for Ahmed’s outstanding spell.

Melbourne Stars have a great team on paper, but their veteran players like Marcus Stoinis, Joe Burns, Andre Russell, and Glenn Maxwell haven’t been firing on all cylinders. The Stars have also struggled in the bowling department. Overall, the Stars have a team that can beat the best on their day, and if they can execute their plans flawlessly, the Scorchers will have their work cut out for them.

Melbourne Stars Squad

Marcus Stoinis, Joe Clarke (wk), Joe Burns, Glenn Maxwell (c), Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Qais Ahmad, Adam Zampa, Brody Couch, Nick Larkin, Haris Rauf, Peter Nevill, Sam Rainbird, Samuel Elliott, Clint Hinchliffe

Predicted XI: Marcus Stoinis, Joe Clarke (wk), Glenn Maxwell (c), Joe Burns, Andre Russell, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, Qais Ahmad, Brody Couch

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Toss Prediction

The Perth pitch is expected to be slightly better for batting in the first innings, making chasing a difficult task under lights. If either captain wins the toss, we expect them to bat first.

Pitch and Weather Conditions

Perth is a bowler’s paradise, and batters may struggle to score freely, especially against the new ball. We anticipate average scores of 150-160 runs in this match, and any score above that may be considered above par.

Forecasters predict that Perth will have bright and sunny weather on match day, with little chance of rain. There will be no weather interruptions in this game.

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Match Prediction

The Perth Scorchers have been the tournament’s standout team thus far, and their bowling cost them the game on the final night, with Tye’s failure to complete his quote of four overs making a significant difference. Melbourne Stars demonstrated their batting prowess, despite the fact that none of their big names contributed significantly to the big score. Their bowlers then did an excellent job in bringing the match to a close. Because of their home advantage, the Perth Scorchers are expected to win this match.

Perth Scorchers is the favourite to beat Melbourne Stars at the odds of 1.67.

  • Perth Scorchers lead the points table with 21 points from seven games.
  • Melbourne Stars have 10 points from 6 matches, with three wins and three losses.
  • The Perth Scorchers won their previous game here this season.
