CPL Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Kings

Caribbean Premier League T20 2021 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Kings – 3rd Match Preview

The Jamaica Tallawahs will open their CPL 2021 season against the newly rebranded St. Lucia Kings. The Tallawahs have been one of the most divisive franchises in the CPL, with player-coach disagreements, ownership involvement, and players just refusing to play for it.

As a result, a talented group of players has underperformed. With the T20 World Cup and IPL just around the corner, teams will be hoping that their players don’t require any more motivation to give it their all.

This season, the St. Lucia Kings have their work cut out for them. They have a solid group of players, but they will need to be creative to beat off the other favorites. On August 27, 2021, the match will be held at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Kings Team Previews

Jamaica Tallawahs

The possession of three outstanding all-rounders is the Jamaica Tallawahs’ greatest asset. Andre Russell is the finest T20 player in the world, and the Tallawahs will be hoping he can stay healthy for the whole of the CPL 2021.

He’ll be joined by Carlos Brathwaite and Rovman Powell. Rovman Powell views himself more like a batting all-rounder these days, while Brathwaite was extremely successful with the ball and scored some vital runs in the T20 Blast.

The Tallawahs’ biggest issue will be finding enough quality surrounding these three.

Overseas players that are expected to play include Qais Ahmad, Haider Ali, and Chris Green. While Qais Ahmad and Chris Green are both outstanding spinners, Haider Ali is a hit-or-miss batter.

The other supporting batters in the team are Shamarh Brooks, Jason Mohammad, Kennar Lewis, and Chadwick Walton, with Fidel Edwards likely to lead with the ball.

There is enough individual talent on this team to win any match, but we don’t like the squad’s balance. We believe the Tallawahs will struggle to remain consistent again this season.

Jamaica Tallawahs Squad

Chadwick Walton (w), Haider Ali, Rovman Powell (c), Andre Russell, Shamarh Brooks, Jason Mohammed; Carlos Brathwaite, Qais Ahmad, Migael Pretorius, Chris Green, Fidel Edwards; Veerasammy Permaul, Kennar Lewis, Joshua James, Kirk McKenzie, Ryan Persaud, Abhijai Mansingh

Chadwick Walton and Haider Ali are set to be the new opening duo for the Jamaica Tallawahs. The combination is anticipated to give the club a strong start at the top. They have a powerful batting lineup that includes Rowman Powell, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, and Chris Green.

Fidel Edwards, Veerasammy Permaul, and Qais Ahmed will be crucial in the bowling department. Russell, Brathwaite, and Green are all all-rounders who will have to contribute with the ball.

Predicted XI: Rovman Powell (c), Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Veerasammy Permaul, Fidel Edwards, Chadwick Walton (wk), Qais Ahmed, Chris Green, Haider Ali, Shamarh Brooks, Migael Pretorius

St Lucia Kings

The T20 squad of the St. Lucia Kings is intriguing. It may lack some of the major names that you would expect to see on a CPL squad, but it is nicely put together. They have Faf du Plessis as captain, which is a wise decision given his expertise and track record. He will also play an important role with the bat at the top of the order.

The St. Luycia Kings have made a wise addition to Tim David, who can play the power game in the center and clear the borders as needed.

The additions of Andre Fletcher, Roston Chase, Rakheem Cornwall, Samit Patel, and Keemo Paul to the batting order will provide depth. This is not a batting lineup that will produce many huge individual scores, but it may be able to unearth several little, fast-scoring performances from a number of its members.

Obed McCoy, Alzarri Joseph, Usman Qadir, Wahab Riaz, and maybe Kesrick Williams will be in the bowling lineup. When all-rounders are included, Faf du Plessis has a plethora of bowling options.

Obed McCoy has developed into one of the Caribbean’s most astute T20 bowlers and is one to keep an eye on in this match and the rest of the CPL 2021 season.

St Lucia Kings Squad

Faf du Plessis (c), Andre Fletcher (w), Javelle Glenn, Roston Chase, Samit Patel, Tim David, Rahkeem Cornwall; Kesrick Williams, Wahab Riaz, Keron Cottoy, Keemo Paul, Usman Qadir, Mark Deyal; Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, Jeavor Royal, Kadeem Alleyne

Faf du Plessis, Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Samit Patel, Tim David, and Andre Fletcher make up the St Lucia Kings’ batting lineup. Kesrick Williams, Wahab Riaz, Obed McCoy, Alzarri Joseph, Tim David, and Samit Patel look to be well-equipped in the bowling area.

With the Kings’ roster experiencing numerous changes, it will be critical for all of the players to come together and perform effectively as a unit.

Predicted XI: Faf du Plessis (c), Andre Fletcher (wk), Rahkeem Cornwall, Tim David; Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Obed McCoy, Usman Qadir/Samit Patel, Wahab Riaz, Kesrick Williams, Alzarri Joseph

Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Kings Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss will want to bat first. Fielding first has been the favored choice for most teams in T20 cricket, and unless the conditions are slow/spin-friendly, it will be the way to play in this match as well.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain forecast in St. Kitts, which should make for a pleasant evening of cricket. The pitch should be a little slower in general, but rather flat. Once they get their eyes in, the batters will be able to score plenty of huge smashes.

In this encounter, a score of 160-170 is very certainly on the cards.

Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Kings Match Prediction

We are going to back the upset in this match and back the St. Lucia Kings to win. They have a good set of bowling options and their batting is not too bad either. The risk is that their lack of batting depth will be exposed but we think that is where having a senior player like Faf du Plessis will pay dividends.

St. Lucia Kings is the favourite to win this match.
