Twenty20 World Cup Oman vs Papua New Guinea

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Oman vs Papua New Guinea – 1st Match, Group B

Oman and Papua New Guinea will kick off the T20 World Cup 2021 by competing against each other in an attempt to advance to the Super 12 stage. Oman is hosting the first stage of the T20 World Cup, giving it an advantage over the other teams. Over the last few years, we’ve also seen Oman develop a strong group of players who have consistently defeated associate teams all over the world.

While they are the clear favourites in this match, Papua New Guinea will be hoping to raise a few eyebrows as well. The match will take place on the 17th of October 2021 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1) in Al Amerat.

Oman vs Papua New Guinea Team Previews

Oman (Match Odds – 1.20)

Oman is the host nation, and it has been preparing for the T20 World Cup with some high-quality matches against Sri Lanka. While Oman lost those matches, they demonstrated the type of challenge that they will pose to all of the other teams. With Bangladesh and Scotland also in the group, qualifying for the Super-12 will be difficult, but not impossible.

The bowling lineup will be led by Zeeshan Maqsood, who will be assisted by Fayaz Butt and Kaleemullah. Oman’s bowling attack isn’t the best, but it was able to keep Sri Lanka at bay in both matches. We believe it will be more than enough to defeat the PNG batting.

The batsmen to watch are Jatinder Singh, Aqib Illyas, and Khurram Nawaz. There isn’t a lot of talent in the batting order, but almost everyone appears to be able to swing a bat and contribute when needed.

Oman T20 Squad

Aqib Ilyas, Ayaan Khan, Bilal Khan, Fayyaz Butt, Jatinder Singh, Kaleemullah, Khawar Ali, Khurram Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi, Nester Dhamba, Sandeep Goud, Sufyan Mehmood, Suraj Kumar (wk), Zeeshan Maqsood (c)

Predicted XI: Zeeshan Maqsood (c), Naseem Khushi (wk), Ayan Khan, Sandeep Goud, Kaleemullah, Kashyap Prajapati, Fayyaz Butt, Jatinder Singh, Aqib Ilyas, Mohammad Nadeem, Khawar Ali

Papua New Guinea (Match Odds – 4.55)

PNG may have qualified for the first stage of the T20 World Cup, but winning even a single match in the Super-12 stage will be difficult. It competed in two matches leading up to the T20 World Cup 2021. One was against Namibia, and the other was against Scotland, and both were convincingly lost.

The fact that it played no other cricket in 2021 and none at all in 2020 will also count against it.

PNG simply does not have the same level of quality or experience as the other associate teams in this tournament. Kiplin Dorigia and Assad Vala are two batsmen to keep an eye on, while Jason Kila and Damien Ravu could cause Oman some problems with the ball. PNG, on the other hand, has a team that is weaker in every way than Oman.

Papua New Guinea T20 Squad

Assad Vala (c), Charles Amini, Simon Atai, Sese Bau, Kipling Doriga, Jack Gardner, Hiri Hiri, Jason Kila, Nosaina Pokana, Damien Ravu, Lega Siaka, Chad Soper, Gaudi Toka, Tony Ura, Kabua Vagi-Morea, Norman Vanua

Predicted XI: Assad Vala (c), Charles Amini, Norman Vanua, Jason Kila, Kabua Morea, Simon Atai , Tony Ura, Sese Bau, Kiplin Doriga (wk), Nosaina Pokana, Chad Soper

Oman vs Papua New Guinea Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss will want to field first. On the small ground, defending a total can be difficult, and chasing must be viewed as a distinct advantage.

To Win the Toss – Oman – 1.85

To Win the Toss – Papua New Guinea – 1.85

Pitch and Weather Conditions

Both the weather and the pitch are expected to be favourable for cricket. When Oman played Sri Lanka just a few days ago, we saw a good amount of pace and carry on the surface. That is unlikely to change in this match, and we can expect more of the same. A total of around 170 is quite likely, especially if Oman bats first.

Oman vs Papua New Guinea Match Prediction

We’re going to wager on Oman to win this game. It has grown into one of the more powerful associate nations, with a solid core group of players on which to rely. Furthermore, it is playing at home and will be far better prepared than Papua New Guinea.

Oman is the favorites to beat Papua New Guinea at the odds of 1.20.

  • Oman has a more powerful batting lineup.
  • Papua New Guinea has played two matches this year, both of which they have lost.
  • In the T20 series against Sri Lanka, Oman’s Aqib Ilyas, Naseem Khushi, and Fayyaz Butt all put in strong performances.
