Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Team Previews

Mumbai Indians (Match Odds – 1.75)

Leaving everything else aside, the biggest news for the Mumbai Indians heading into the upcoming match will be the return of Suryakumar Yadav, who has been their most dependable batsman in recent years. His return would immediately fill the most glaring gap exposed by the Mumbai Indians in the first match.

Mumbai Indians got off to a good start against the Capitals, but they were unable to capitalise on the momentum set by Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Mumbai’s batting unit appeared vulnerable in the middle, despite the presence of two youngsters in Anmolpreet Singh and Tilak Verma. They did finish their innings with a flourish, reaching a commanding total of 177, which was probably a good dozen runs short of where they should have been given the start they had. With Yadav in the lineup, their batting would look strong, with firepower available all the way up the order.

For so long, the torch has been carried by bowling. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowling in tandem used to trouble even the best, but with Boult unavailable, Mumbai Indians struggled in the previous match – both early and late. Mumbai’s cause was not helped by the fact that Jasprit Bumrah was far away.

Despite a poor performance in the previous match, the Mumbai Indians will not be concerned. The first match provided plenty of positives, with Murugan Ashwin’s spell being the highlight. He was easily the standout for them in the previous match and will undoubtedly enjoy bowling in a day game with no dew.

On paper, the Mumbai Indians appear to be well-established, with some exceptional firepower at the crease. They have hard-hitters available all the way down to number seven, with Daniel Sams and Tim David both capable of winning the match on their own.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Basil Thampi, Murugan Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, N Tilak Varma, Sanjay Yadav, Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Mohammad Arshad Khan, Anmolpreet Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Rahul Buddhi, Hrithik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Aryan Juyal, Fabian Allen

Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Anmolpreet Singh/Surya Kumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi

Rajasthan Royals (Match Odds – 2.10)

The Rajasthan Royals appeared to be lagging on the second day of the auction, but it was the exact opposite when they took the field. There were a few unexpected auction picks; but their auction strategy looked brilliant after they demonstrated their approach in first game, against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Although it is still early in the season, the Rajasthan Royals will be relishing their current top-of-the-table position. They not only won their first match, but they did so with aplomb. Almost everything seemed to be going the Royals’ way, from the start to the finish.

The signing of Devdutt Padikkal by the Royals was particularly intriguing; especially since Padikkal is a designated opener and the Royals have plenty of those. However, the way he batted at four was commendable, and the Royals will want him to keep doing so. Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal, and Jos Buttler all looked convincing with the bat; and the total they scored demonstrated their ability.

Rajasthan Royals appear to have covered almost all of their bases in the bowling department as well. Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna, the opening pair, looked lethal on a surface with a bit of extra bounce and pace. The Royals will be difficult to deal with throughout the game; with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Ashwin bowling in the middle overs. With Trent Boult as their only experienced one, their death bowling appears to be a little shaky.

Overall, the Rajasthan Royals not only have momentum on their side; but they also have an exceptionally balanced team to sustain that momentum. Arguably, the only thing they need to focus on is their death bowling; and if they can do that, they will be a formidable opponent not just in the upcoming match; but in the ones to come.

Rajasthan Royals Squad

Sanju Samson (c), Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, Riyan Parag, KC Cariappa, Navdeep Saini, Obed McCoy, Anunay Singh, Kuldeep Sen, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Tejas Baroka, Kuldip Yadav, Shubham Garhwal, Jimmy Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie van der Dussen, Daryl Mitchell

Predicted XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Obed McCoy, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna

Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Toss Prediction

To Win the Toss – Rajasthan Royals – 1.85

Pitch and Weather Conditions

Dr DY Patil Sports Academy has a fantastic track, with the ball landing nicely on the bat. Batsmen can take advantage of this wicket if they apply themselves early on. We anticipate a score of 180-190 runs in this match.

According to weather forecasters, Mumbai will have bright and sunny weather on match day, with no chance of rain. We anticipate that dew will have a significant impact on the match’s second innings.

Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Match Prediction

Rajasthan has one of the strongest teams, with a strong batting and bowling unit that includes experienced pace and spin bowlers. Their only concern will be the fifth bowler’s overs quota and the batting firepower below No. 7. Mumbai lacks experience in their middle order; and will have to rely on the top order for runs now that SKY has returned to the playing XI. And their bowling is also dependent on Bumrah, which puts a lot of pressure on him. We believe MI will win this game and earn their first points.

Mumbai Indians is the favourite to beat Rajasthan Royals at the odds of 1.75.

  • MI was defeated by DC by four wickets in their most recent match.
  • RR defeated SRH by 61 runs to become the league’s only team to win batting first.
  • MI has a win-loss record of 12-12 in IPL history.
