Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Team Previews

Punjab Kings (Match Odds – 1.88)

PBKS was thrashed by DC on a pitch that provided some assistance to the spinners. Given that this will be the third match at the Wankhede in four days, we may see some spin on offer once more. There are a few questions about team balance that PBKS must address.

Do they want to keep their two overseas bowlers, Rabada and Ellis, or do they want to add some batting cushion by bringing in an all-rounder? Jonny Bairstow is also struggling for form, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa must be growing impatient sitting outside! How long will it be before Mayank Aggarwal is forced to make that change?

PBKS’s reliance on Liam Livingstone is concerning because he could struggle if the wickets begin to turn. PBKS has currently hit five 50-plus runs, three of which have come off the bat of Livingstone. He has 226 runs in total, and while Dhawan also has 214, the strike rate difference is astounding.

Rabada and Chahar have been the most successful bowlers for PBKS thus far. PBKS has a decent bowling unit with Arshdeep Singh, Vaibhav Arora, and Nathan Ellis in the lineup, but it is not one that will run through sides very often.

Punjab Kings Squad

Chennai Super Kings (Match Odds – 1.89)

CSK came back from the dead to defeat MI, thanks to MS Dhoni’s brilliance at the death. That was their second win of the IPL 2022 season, and with the table so close, they have a good chance of making the playoffs.

CSK’s batting lineup is also a little thin, and it relies heavily on its top order to perform. Although both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa have shown flashes of form this season, they have yet to score in unison. Uthappa, in particular, is making the most of his top-order batting position and has scored the most runs for CSK this season.

Santner, Rayadu, Dube, and Jadeja batted in the middle order for CSK in the previous match. This is not a strong batting lineup and will be tested. There is a lack of power, and with three of the four pitchers being left-handed, there isn’t much room to plan for matchups. Fortunately for CSK, Dhoni is in good form, and he adds depth to the lineup alongside Pretorius and Bravo.

CSK’s batting lineup is very different from that of PBKS, but if the pitch starts to turn, CSK could be right in the mix.

We believe CSK will triumph over PBKS in the bowling department in this match. Theekshana, Santner, Bravo, and even Pretorius excel at slowing down and utilising whatever grip the surface provides. They will be well aware of PBKS’s struggles against DC and will look to capitalise on them.

When CSK bowls, there is a lot of spin and a change of pace on the menu.

Predicted XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Dwaine Pretorius, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner/Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary

Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Toss Prediction

Captains have chosen to bowl first in all 35 matches played so far, and we anticipate that trend to continue in this match as well. At this same venue, both teams scored 200+ runs in their previous match.

To Win the Toss – Punjab Kings – 1.85

To Win the Toss – Chennai Super Kings – 1.85

Pitch and Weather Conditions

Wankhede is a high-scoring venue, with the ball coming onto the bat nicely and the new ball expected to swing around and catch the batters off guard. We anticipate that batters will play aggressively and score 190-200 runs on this pitch.

On the day of the match, Mumbai will have bright and sunny weather with weather interruptions. We anticipate that dew will have an impact on the match’s second innings.

Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Match Prediction

CSK enters this match having won a close game against their opponents, which will boost team morale. They still need to address their fielding issues as well as their batting line-top-order up’s woes. With their inexperienced pacers failing to take wickets on a consistent basis, the Punjab Kings are struggling to find a balance. They will be hoping that their top four players perform well in this match.

Punjab Kings is the favourite to beat Chennai Super Kings at the odds of 1.88.

  • CSK has 4 points from 7 games, while PBKS has 6 points from 7 games.
  • CSK has won two of their last three matches, while PBKS has only won one of their last four.
  • In their previous meeting this season, PBKS defeated CSK by 54 runs.
