IPL 2020- Finally it begins

2020 was the year of global uncertainties. As the global pandemic affected many industries it impacted the beautiful game of cricket. The most passionate cricket country in the world was impacted the most where the largest league of the world got postponed.

The wait for cricket lovers is finally over. Although the cricket is being played now behind closed doors, where every activity of life are online and in the home watching cricket at the home is not a bad idea.

It is the 13th year of Indian Premier League. With a lot of competitors in the market, it is still the biggest league in the world.  The Indian Premier League 2020 started on 19th of September 2020 in deserts of United Arab Emirates. The UAE pitches till now have witnessed low scoring match where Batsmen will struggle, and spin will enjoy.

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings

The opening match was played between 4 times champion team Mumbai Indians and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings. Chennai team was favourite for this match which added extra pressure on Chennai team.

Despite all that pressure, the Chennai team finally won with the amazing batting display by Ambati Rayudu and Faf Duplessis. Mumbai Indians remains consistent in losing their first match. The slow pitch of UAE is always trouble but this pitch looked well compacted for batting.

Rohit and De cock started well. Rohit Sharma has good hitting ability, but some rumours are in his fitness issues. There was plenty of drama in the match with the reshuffle of the batting order. Later in the batting order, Pollard and Pandya failed their fireworks which kept the check on Mumbai Indians to score a huge total. Although Pandya hit two sixes but could not well managed to keep it going.

The Mumbai Bowler bowled well with Trent Boult and James Pattinson but due to batting depth of Chennai super kings and Excellent display of batting by Sam Curran in the end after Ryadu and Du Plessis, Chennai finally won the battle.

Delhi Capital vs Kings XI Punjab

The second match was played on the shining pitch of Sharjah between Delhi and Kings eleven Punjab. Mark Stonins All-round performance and Rabada’s super over helped Delhi to win their match against the Kings Eleven Punjab. Mark Stonins showed an excellent batting display where everyone felt he should have played up the order. In bowling, Mark Stonins in his last three balls grabbed two wickets and Rabada did the rest in super over. Credits to Mayanal Agarwal who helped Kings XI Punjab team to reach the match in final over when there was a collapse of 5 wickets for 55 runs in ten overs. Agarwal was unlucky who got out on full toss. It looked a fast bowling pitch which assisted Shane Cottrell, Mark Stonins, Mohammad Shami and Rabada.

Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Bangalore Royall Challengers whose captain is Virat Kohli and who is the captain of his National team has not won a single Championship. The match between Sunrisers and Bangalore was expected to be a thriller where RCB won by 10 runs.

Padikkal looked so impressive on his debut. He scored 25 of 36 balls in the powerplay which is fair enough for a debutant. Finch played solely if we compared him with his career strike rate. If Bangalore wants to win Finch needs to perform. AB De Villiers is again looking a threat despite not being played. He is playing proper cricketing shots and playing with a lot of responsibility.

Chahal with his spin abilities was the turnaround of the match. He was just phenomenal and kept the other team in check. Got some important Batsman like Vijay Shankar out. Yet some reckless shot was played against him by Jony Bairstow but full marks to Chahal but full marks to Jony Bairstow for a remarkable innings.

Next Matches

The batsmen need to be careful on UAE pitches.  It will be not easy for the batsmen to free their arms. The pitches would be spinning paradise. The teams who will get quality spinners will win the match. The batsmen like Kane Williamson etc. who anchor the innings should play for making a good partnership.
