With the times we are currently living in, playing cricket and adapting to the conditions appears to be more difficult off the field than on it. We saw multiple teams in the BBL deal with the frequent chopping and changes caused by Covid-19, and we saw it again during Ireland’s tour of the United States and the West Indies.
Ireland will face the West Indies in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Twenty-Twenty-Innings (T20Is) with a depleted squad in what will be an important series for the tourists. While the matchup appears to be a mismatch on paper, there could be a lot on offer, especially with WInides not at full strength.
The game between the two teams will take place on January 8th, 2022, at the Sabina Park, Kingston in Jamaica.

West Indies vs Ireland Team Previews
West Indies had a terrible World T20 campaign recently – by any standard – and while they are currently rebuilding, they would not want to exhibit disappointing performances at home. This would be their first home series since the World Cup, and they’d be desperate to win.
Recently, the West Indies have had a terrible run against Pakistan, albeit in the shortest format of the game. That loss highlighted and exposed their vulnerabilities and lack of depth as a side. They would want to not only understand and close the gaps, but they would also want to win some games.
West Indies, like Ireland, has been severely impacted by Covid-19 and will field a relatively young squad. Evin Lewis, Anderson Phillip, and Fabian Allen have all tested positive for the virus and will not play in the first game. Kieron Pollard will lead the pack, as he has a wealth of experience and will be crucial to West Indies’ success in this upcoming contest.
Unless there are any further developments before the start of play on Saturday, the West Indies squad appears to be fairly well-balanced on paper. West Indies also have Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran, Jayden Seales, and Akeal Hosein to supplement Pollard’s experience. Clearly, they are a young team with limited experience, and they will need their youngsters to step up. If that happens, and the experienced players are able to join the party, West Indies will be a very difficult team to beat in this upcoming match, especially since they will be playing in familiar conditions.
West Indies Squad
Shai Hope (wk), Devon Thomas, Shamarh Brooks, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, Kieron Pollard (c), Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, Akeal Hosein, Justin Greaves, Odean Smith, Gudakesh Motie
Predicted XI: Kieron Pollard (captain), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Devon Thomas, Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Shamarh Brooks, Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph
After a disappointing couple of games in the United States against the United States, which were part of a part series that Ireland would have hoped to win 3-0, Ireland will be desperate to get something substantial in this upcoming T20I series. Although Ireland recovered from a poor start in the T20I series, they were far from impressive as a team.
The ODI against the United States was cancelled, and many Irish players tested positive for Covid-19 since their last appearance. The most significant change is that they have left Paul Stirling and Shane Getkate behind, who both tested positive. They will both be available to join the squad prior to the first game, but will not be able to play. Their absence will deprive the Irish team of some of its experience, which could prove crucial.
With a string of positive cases in Florida, this Irish team would have been under a lot of pressure, but a long break between Florida and Jamaica would have been extremely beneficial. However, they will be far from full strength in this first match, and the youngsters will have to rise to the occasion in order to challenge the potent WIndies side.
On paper, the Irish have a good mix of youth and experience, but they will have to play out of their skins. The fact that they have been playing in similar conditions for a long time certainly helps them. Overall, if they can play to their on-paper potential and catch the hosts off guard in this opening contest, they will be in big trouble.
William Porterfield, Andrew Balbirnie (c), Harry Tector, George Dockrell, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Curtis Campher, Simi Singh, Mark Adair, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Joshua Little, Benjamin White, Neil Rock
Predicted XI: Andrew Balbirnie (c), Harry Tector, Neil Rock ,Curtis Campher, Simi Singh, Andy McBrine, George Dockrell, Craig Young, Joshua Little

Pitch and Weather Conditions

The game’s prepared wicket will provide an exciting battle between bat and ball. The forecast for Saturday’s game is for bright sunshine with no chance of rain.
West Indies vs Ireland Match Prediction
Ireland doesn’t get many chances to play top-level cricket, so they’ll be looking forward to facing one of the test-playing nations. They’d be desperate to do well here and announce their candidacy for World Cricket League. Having said that, they are missing a few key players and may not be at their best. In addition, the West Indies have a more balanced side and are playing at home. Given that, as well as the other factors mentioned above, betting on a West Indies win appears to be the best option here.
