UEFA Champions League Final
Manchester City vs Chelsea, 29th May
The Blues betting it all for the ultimate game against City
From slumping to mid-table in late January under club legend Lampard to being close to a top-four finish in the Premier League and reaching the UCL finals, it’s been a dream run for the Blues under Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea is one of the most organized defensive units in the world right, a dynamic midfield lead by N’golo Kante along with prodigious talents like Mason Mount and Havertz upfront.
Moreover, defeating a team like Real Madrid comprehensively in the run to the final and Manchester City twice in the last two months does boost any team’s morale. With that, Chelsea will be gunning to repeat the same in Porto and hope a Leicester fiasco doesn’t get repeated.
Predicted Line Up: Benjamin Mendy; Izzy Christensen, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rüdiger; Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, N’Golo Kanté, Ben Chilwell; Havertz, Werner, Mason Mount
The new powerhouse of Manchester has won everything they could, sans one, the Champions League. Spending 699 million dollars under Guardiola’s reign shows how badly Mansour Al Nahyan wants this trophy in City’s cabinet. There is hardly any manager more accomplished than Guardiola, and he exactly knows what it needs to win the finals. His record of 19 triumphs in 24 final outings just proves the same.
Manchester City is on the hot heels of winning the English Premier League and would be desperate to get their revenge for the F.A. Cup semifinal defeat to Chelsea. Boasting of an outrageously creative midfield of De Bruyn, Phil Foden and Silva, Mahrez and the likes up front and a solid defense that has conceded just 4 goals in 12 outings in this season’s UCL lead by Ruben Dias; City will be the team to beat.
Predicted Line Up: Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Gündoğan; Mahrez, De Bruyne, Foden; Emerson Palmieri dos Santos; Walker, John Stones, Rúben Dias, Oleksandr Zinchenko
The defeats in the two recent outings against the Blues does provide a bit of apprehension for the stakes of City’s chances against Chelsea, yet the Citizens are better placed at winning the coveted trophy this year in the all English final. The odds, for one, certainly believe that Manchester City holds the upper hand with an odd of 1.90. On the other hand, Chelsea comes in with a 4.50 and a draw stand at 3.50. The perhaps muted nature of these odds reflects that while Manchester City is likely going to be crowned the winner, Chelsea will stand to be a formidable opponent. Whatever happens, this is going to be one exciting match and a perfect end to what has been a rather bewitching season.
With odds tilting strongly in favour of City, it should be an easy guess on whom to place your bets upon. City under Guardiola has been rampaging in the Premier League and hence the clear favourites. While Chelsea stands to be the dark horse in the affair, one thing is pretty much guaranteed – the All English Finale would surely be an entertaining and all-out affair.
