Chasing the European Dream at the Theatre of Dreams

Manchester United

Manchester United have all but confirmed Champions League football next season despite the defeat against Leicester City over the weekend, thanks to the heroics of talisman Bruno Fernandes and new signing Edinson Cavani.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men find themselves adequately rested to face their biggest rivals in the country after the Manchester United manager made several changes for the game against Leicester City.

With the squad peaking at the right time, Manchester United know they can bank on players like Bruno, Rashford, and Cavani to propel them to victory against a Liverpool side, desperately looking to grab all three points at Old Trafford.

Predicted Line-Up: Dean Henderson, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani

Liverpool

Liverpool travels to the Theatre of Dreams chasing a European berth for next season. The erstwhile champions currently lie in 6th place and have a game in hand over every team above them. Despite an admittedly disappointing campaign as defending champions, Liverpool has been undefeated during their last five games in the league. With Manchester United’s home record being far from perfect, Liverpool goes into the game with the belief that they can snatch all three points on offer on their way to securing Continental football next season.

Liverpool will look to their star players, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, to take the game by the scruff of its neck en route to a winning performance.

Predicted Line-Up: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams, Andy Robertson, Thiago, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota

Venue

The match will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s historic stadium. Despite no in-person attendance, matches played here have an electric atmosphere. Manchester United have lost five league games at home this season, as opposed to none away from home. Liverpool will be looking to hand the Red Devils their second successive league defeat this week come kick-off.

The Odds

A goalless draw was the result of the last time the two teams met in the league. Often terse affairs, this game in particular promises more, especially since Liverpool has everything to play for.

The two teams are evenly matched with Manchester United coming away with better pre-game odds at 2.90 compared to Liverpool’s 2.45 with odds on a draw at 3.65. Of course, anything can happen, it’s football, but a draw seems to be the likeliest result.
