Big Bash League 2020-21 Match 40

Melbourne Stars vs. Adelaide Strikers Match Prediction – Fri, 15th January

Strikers Will Miss Rashid:

These two franchises met on Wednesday, with Strikers fruitfully chasing an easy 150. That was at the Adelaide Oval, while Stars now get to play at their standard home ground for the first time in this edition. Last year in the Big Bash League, they won five from seven at this venue.

Adelaide Strikers came back from their surprise loss to Melbourne Renegades as they outdid Melbourne Stars with a rock-hard performance, which came on the back of a concrete bowling line-up.

A significant supplementary difference is that Adelaide Strikers will be playing without the Afghani superstar Rashid Khan. While standing fourth in the points table, swaggering a positive net run-rate, and having to reside in the knockout zone could be a skirmish without their matchless leg spinner.

Possible playing XI: Matt Renshaw, Phillip Salt, Alex Carey (C and WK), Danny Briggs, Peter Siddle, Jonathan Wells, Jake Weatherald, Ryan Gibson, Daniel Worrall, Wes Agar, Harry Conway.

Stars will be Adamant:

The condition is getting perilous for the early season favourites. Melbourne Stars – the perpetual nearly-men of the Big Bash League with eight top-four presences from nine editions – languish at the bottom with five games outstanding. This game is a must-win.

To get their campaign moving again, Stars will require strong batting support for Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. They’ve backed 532 runs with nobody else more than 132. Nicholas Pooran’s subpar season has come to an end.

Another vital player for Stars is Haris Rauf. The speedster has been leaky in his two outings so far but outclassed at this venue last year, taking eight wickets in four games.

Possible playing XI: Andre Fletcher, Adam Zampa, Clint Hinchcliffe, Marcus Stoinis, Nick Larkin, Glenn Maxwell (C), Nic Maddinson, Hilton Cartwright, Seb Gotch (WK), Liam Hatcher, Haris Rauf.

The venue, Pitch Report, and Toss Prediction:

Match 40 of the ongoing Big Bash League 2020-21 will witness Melbourne Stars play opposite the Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 15th January Friday.

The wicket at the MCG isn’t outright known for batting. But the ground has been witnessed quite a few nail-biting clashes. Since it hasn’t hosted a T20 game for some time now, it might be harmless to field first and scale the wicket’s nature before batting on it. Despite it being a hard track, there isn’t much for it to offer. And, thus the batter will exploit the conditions.

Hence we reckon the Skippers will want to chase on winning the toss.

Big Numbers on Stake:

The plan is to take higher odds around Strikers if they lose the toss. As it emerged in the previous game, they lost it but reduced in the betting, the target went unsurpassed, and they duly won.

However, it is not tricky here, as we have no healthy outlook on the match odds. Stars are too little at 1.79 based on their corresponding positions and the last game but, given the abovementioned change in venue and people, do permit favouritism.

Stoinis and Carrey to make Headlines:

They are in the top run-scorers in the market. They both have notched up a significant number for their respective franchises. And owing to their form, they are due for a massive knock yet again.

Thus, we reckon a case could be easily made for them based on their success so far. And, if you’re looking for big odds from the beginning of the batting order, these two are the name.
