India vs South Africa Team Previews
All eyes will be on captain Rishabh Pant to see if he is the right man to lead Team India in the future. Back-to-back losses have called into question his decision to use bowlers effectively. So far, only Ishan Kishan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have stood out. Kishan leads the tournament in run-scoring with 110 runs at a strike rate of 159.42. With only 24 runs in two games, his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad is not helping him. India may reconsider using Venkatesh Iyer to open the innings with Kishan. He can also be used as a bowling option, as Hardik Pandya is averaging 12.25 runs per over in this series.
Shreyas Iyer does not appear to be comfortable in his preferred third position. Iyer is India’s second leading run-scorer with 76 runs, but his strike rate is only 122.58. The Indian middle order struggled in the second T20I. Pant, Pandya, and Axar Patel all scored at an 80 percent strike rate. Deepak Hooda’s economy is 11.80, so his inclusion may be beneficial to India. In the IPL, Hooda scored 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.67. Dinesh Karthik will remain in the starting lineup after scoring 30 runs at a strike rate of 142.86 in the previous game.
With Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar will lead India’s bowling attack. Kumar’s 4 for 13 in 4 overs was in vain because he received no assistance from his partners. He now leads the series wicket-taking chart with 5 wickets. Spinners’ ineffectiveness has exacerbated India’s underperforming bowling unit. Yuzvendra Chahal, the IPL’s leading wicket-taker, has only one wicket in two games and is conceding 12.16 runs per over. Despite the fact that Ravi Bishnoi is warming up the bench, India will most likely stick with Chahal throughout the series.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(c & wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Venkatesh Iyer, Y Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, R Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik
Predicted XI: Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Hooda, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan
SA captain Temba Bavuma will be relieved that things are going as planned. Due to an injury, South Africa lost Quinton de Kock prior to the game. Klassen, his replacement, did the job for SA. If De Kock is able to play, Reeza Hendricks will most likely lose his starting spot. Bavuma is not an ideal choice to open the innings, but he provides stability when wickets fall. In the second game, he added 35 points in 30 balls and assisted Klassen in scoring freely at the other end.
Rassie Van der Dussen had a forgettable game, scoring one run on seven pitches. However, his track record in the last three games (170 runs) will keep him in fourth place. Klassen, who was brought in to replace the injured de Kock, scored 81 runs in 46 deliveries. He hit seven fours and five sixes. In addition, by scoring 28 against Chahal and 18 against Axar, he single-handedly broke the Indian spin attack. David Miller scored 20 off 15 balls in the first T20. In this series, he now has a strike rate of 182.60. The middle-order of SA is the deciding factor between them and the hosts.
Rabada, Parnell, and Nortje will spearhead South Africa’s pace attack. The trio allowed only 6.16 runs per over while taking four wickets. SA will consider using two spinners in the future. Maharaj and Shamsi both have 11 and 12 economies, respectively. Shamsi has yet to create a wicket account. Lungi Ngidi is ready to take his place in the 3rd T20I.
